Dr. Nicholas Colyvas trained in orthopaedic surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, where he is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.  He has been in private practice in the Bay Area for over a decade and is a team physician for a number of local sports teams.  He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association.

Elly LaRoque, M.D. | Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, Fellowship Trained in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy

Dr. Elly LaRoque completed her residency in orthopaedic surgery at Stanford University, and her fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy with the Stanford University Medical School and SOAR (Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Medicine Associates).  Her special interests include arthroscopy, rehabilitation of the knee and shoulder and women's sports injuries.  Dr. LaRoque is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco and teaches at the San Francisco Veterans Administration Hospital.


Youjeng Kim, M.D. l Board Certified-Orthopaedic Spine Surgery


Dr. Youjeong Kim studied Neuroscience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received her medical degree from UT Houston followed by Orthopaedic Surgery residency at University of California in San Francisco. She is fellowship trained in spine surgery and was the first woman spine surgery fellow at the Emory Spine Center in Atlanta, GA.


Prior to joining Golden Gate Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic surgery, she was in private practice at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Dr. Kim is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco and teaches at the San Francisco Veterans Administration Hospital. She has authored peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters on orthopaedic and spine surgery. She is a member of the North American Spine Society and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. 


Youjeong Kim, M.D. is a fellowship trained board-certified orthopaedic spine surgeon who offers individualized comprehensive spine care and treatments for all conditions of the spine. Her philosophy of patient care is centered on patient education, and all aspects of her practice involve educating the patient about their spine condition and treatment options. She believes that most all spinal conditions can be treated non-operatively. Her special interests include minimally invasive surgery, motion preservation surgery including total disc arthroplasty, and complex cervical spine surgery.


Neeti A. Bathia, M.D. I Board Certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine



Dr. Neeti Bathia's primary practices is out of SOAR-The Physiatry Medical Group. Dr. Neeti Bathia received her undergraduate degree from Duke University and her medical degree from Cornell University. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center and her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. Dr. Bathia completed a fellowship in sports medicine and interventional spine procedures at the Hospital for Special Surgery. She is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and in Sports Medicine.


Her academic interests include women’s sports medicine and running medicine. She also is trained in the use of diagnostic ultrasound in musculoskeletal conditions. She has been involved in medical coverage for multiple road races sponsored by New York Road Runners, including the New York City Marathon and multiple half-marathons. She is currently one of the physicians for Santa Clara University athletics.


Dr. Bathia has presented diagnostic ultrasound cases for the American College of Sports Medicine and has presented on spine pain at the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She has published on ultrasound guidance for shoulder injections. She has conducted research on prevention of overuse injuries in runners, and is an avid runner herself.

David Smolins, M.D. l Board Certified in Pain Management


A Magna Cum Laude graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Psychology and Biological Sciences, Dr. Smolins received virtually every top honor in his graduating class. After finishing his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas at San Antonio (again with top honors), Dr. Smolins spent a year as an intern at The University of Chicago/Weiss Memorial Hospital. At University of California, San Francisco, Dr Smolins completed his resident training in Anesthesiology, he followed with Fellowship training in Pain Management. In addition, his recent experience includes responsibilities as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at UCSF/Veteran Affairs Medical Center and as an Anesthesiologist for Kaiser San Francisco. Dr Smolins has practiced Pain Management with Remedy Medical Group in Redwood City since 2007 and is Board Certified in Pain Management.


Dr. Smolins Pain Management experience includes: Fellowship training specializing in the multi-disciplinary management of acute and chronic pain. Techniques include all standard spinal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, spinal cord stimulation, radiofrequency ablation, sympathetic blocks, discography, and medical management.

Mikel Davenport L.Ac., D.N.B.A.O. l Acupuncture


During his ten year training in Chinese Martial Arts, including traveling to China for advanced Qi Gung trainings, Mike discovered the healing powers of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This brought him to The Five Branches Institute where he earned a Masters in TCM, specializing in orthopedic and musculo-skeletal acupuncture. Mike furthered his training by completing an internship in internal medicine at the Zheijang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. In addition, Mike has completed the 300 hour Lerner Education course in orthopedics, and also has certification in acupressure and tui na from the Acupressure Institute. 
He is an avid surfer and cyclist and has been an athlete most of his life. Mike is licensed by the California State Acupuncture Board to practice Acupuncture and Herbology and board certified in acupuncture orthopedics by the National Board of Acupuncture Orthopedics.
